tech is cool but leading people will never go away…
no matter how you look at it, you can’t truly lead without becoming better yourself.
I keep hearing that leadership is about ‘directing teams or hitting goals’
sure, but it misses the mark…
leadership is about becoming a better human not just for yourself but for every single person you lead
why?
several reasons:
1 – the practical reason:
YOUR own growth ceiling determines your team’s talent ceiling (for example, it takes some work to be humble enough to know you need a team better skilled than you)
2 – the impact reason:
It feels amazing to have people you had the privilege to lead, thank you, 5, 8 and even 10 years later…
even though I had no clue what I was doing back then, I constantly ask myself:
“what type of leader do I have to become in order to support people like that?”
The cool thing is, it starts with a choice:
to become better today.
