The Difference Between Strategies & Tactics

A strategy is based on principles. When you look at the end outcome you are looking to achieve, you first have to

  • review the principles that are at play
  • review the current constraints within your situation

Only then can you start to look at creative ways to solve a problem.

These creative ideas to solve a problem are the basis for a strategy.

From these strategies stem specific action items that address different pieces of the overall strategy and move you closer to your end outcome.

These action items are your tactics: the tasks you and your team execute day in, day out.

Tactics are not strategies.

But strategies include tactics.

Knowing the difference and knowing how to create strategies will empower your team to be more independent and self-sufficient.
