This time of year, I’ve been thinking a lot about momentum vs movement.
movement feels like productivity: you’re busy, checking off tasks, moving quickly.
Ask me how my week was last week:
I’d say “busy” yet I didn’t get enough done to make progress..
which leads me to:
momentum – it’s intentional.
it’s about taking fewer, focused actions that push you closer to your actual goals.
the trap?
speed
we think moving fast will get us there. but speed in multiple directions only pulls you
It’s an illusion of progress.
here’s an idea: simplify to multiply
• ask: what do I need to do less of? not just what’s unpleasant, but what’s unnecessary.
• focus: what’s the one thing that moves the needle most?
I learned this early in my career helping companies scale:
growth isn’t flashy j-curve…
it’s a staircase.
Each foundation you build sets the stage for the next level of growth
and at each level you’ll have a NEW perspective you didn’t have before
allowing you to adjust your growth goals
until you reach the destination
be it
- exiting
- revenue
- team size
- new product created and shipped
- etc
TLDR hone in your intensity and ambition to 1 focal point until it’s complete. Then rinse & repeat.
